Like many on twitter, I've been having
problems with followers I really didn't want following me. I would
wake up some days to find hundreds of new followers only to discover that they
were the same individual with different accounts. I was spending way
too much time blocking these people only to have them return the same
day. It was very frustrating, to say the least ,and I even thought
about deleting my account. After all, twitter should be fun not a
pain in the butt. Instead, I locked my updates. I've always been a
little turned off by locked updates because I felt it created a
barrier to being followed. Now I see that's the point and it's not a
bad thing. Since locking my updates, I continue to get new followers
(although not as many) and I don't have that feeling of being
stalked. I don't need a million followers to enjoy twitter, just you!
Be sure to request a follow and, as long as you don't have a million
different accounts under the same name, I'll be sure to accept and
follow back. Remember people it's about the quality of your followers
not the quantity. Twitter away...
Just a thought about the quality of
your followers vs. the quantity. I don't expect my followers to jump
on to Back Home Again and buy out my stock. I'm looking for friends
that share my interests: antiques, vintage collectibles, sewing,
crafting, online selling (especially etsy), Fort Collins and older
adults. I especially love my nurse and elder care followers! I just
want my customers to get to know me a little better as an individual
and I want to support others. That's why you wont see me constantly
promoting my store but I do on occasion promote my blog and other artisans. Although I don't see anything wrong with promoting,
it's just not what I want from twitter and a little of it can go a long way. So I think it's important to
define what it is you want from your twitter stream of followers and
manage your account accordingly.
One more thing and then I'm off the subject of twitter. I love the personalized twitter pages I see so many people using and I just have to promote one of my favorite graphic designers . Rene Thompson at Thompson Designs created my banner for Back Home Again on etsy and some of the graphics you see on my blog. She has the most amazing personalized twitter pages for sale. Isn't the one above a beauty! Not only is Rene talented but she's wonderful to work with!
