Before there was a McDonald's on every
street corner, people would pack lunches in picnic baskets for long
road trips. Hard boiled eggs, pickles, peanut butter and jelly all
carefully placed in a picnic basket for the long trip to grandma's
house (picture Driving Miss Daisy). Can you imagine a time when you
would drive through the country side, park your car along side the
road and have your lunch under a big ole' oak tree? Not because it
was a nostalgic fun thing to do but because it was all there was to
do, if you wanted to eat. I was thinking about this the other day and
I got to thinking about vintage picnic baskets. They come in various
colors and materials and are a hot collectible these days. I doubt if
many are used for picnics but vintage metal picnic baskets are a
great way to decorate your retro home, especially your kitchen. The
bright bold colors and graphics make a big statement in your vintage
home. They are also great for organizing, displaying and stacking.
Here's a great selection of vintage picnic baskets from some vintage
Etsy sellers. Enjoy...
